Classes

Courses are modified according to age group to ensure age appropriate instruction. Length of residencies are adjusted to meet school schedules. To directly connect course to specific curriculum and/or California Department of Education standards, please let us know so that we can tailor program accordingly. Lessons can support language arts, history-social science, mathematics, science, health and physical education, visual and performing arts.

Art Adventures:
Children embark on an imagination journey filled with fun and fantasy! In this spectacular course, designed specifically for preschoolers, students experience each of the art disciplines: Creative Drama, Dance, Music, and Visual Arts. Each class presents a different theme with fun and engaging activities. Through this course, preschoolers develop skills to prepare them for the next stage of growth: creative expression, movement and motor skills, socialization, language development and math concepts. From the ocean to the jungle, royal castles to safari scenes, children set off on a course of adventure with costumes, props, music, arts and crafts, and lots and lots of imagination! May be offered as a parent and child program or a child only program.

Baby Ballet:
Baby Ballet encourages self-expression and fun! In this class, children learn to respond to music, improve balance and agility, and express their feelings through the art of dance. A wide variety of music and fun props such as scarves, teddy bears, and hula hoops will keep your little one entertained. Wear comfortable clothes to move easily and bare feet or ballet shoes. May be offered as a parent and child program or a child only program.

Circus Stars:
Be a circus star! Have fun with clowning and comical skits, poi spinning or ribbon dancing, face painting and circus acts using hula hoops, stompers, scarf juggling and more!

Drama Discovery:
Discover a world of fun and fantasy! This preschool program combines creative movement, theatre games, costuming and props to take children on adventures they won't soon forget! From fairy tale castles to safari scenes, budding young artists explore the world of creative drama.

Movement and Music:
Movement and Music encourages grace, poise and self-expression. In this class, children will learn to respond to different types of music, and learn to express their thoughts and feelings through the art of dance. A wide variety of music will be incorporated, and fun props such as scarves, teddy bears and hula hoops will keep your little one entertained. Students may be barefoot, or wear ballet shoes. May be offered as a parent and child program or a child only program.

Pre-Ballet:
A first introduction to ballet - children will learn basic ballet positions, steps and routines. They will also dance to a wide variety of ballet and age-appropriate music, use props and have lots of fun! Children should wear ballet attire and ballet shoes.

Rhythm and Roll:
This class safely introduces basic gymnastics balances, rolls, springs and landings and rotations while also developing a dance foundation. Children improve motor skills, coordination, balance and flexibility in a playful atmosphere. Beginning dance moves help develop rhythm, spatial awareness and self-confidence. Hula hoops, ribbon sticks, scarves and other props add to the fun!

Tap/Ballet:
This tap/ballet combination class introduces your child to the basics of both ballet and tap, combining creative movement, grace and balance. Students will be introduced to basic tap steps such as shuffles, rhythm exercises, and springs, and will learn elementary ballet including plies, tendus, passes, and the basic ballet positions. This upbeat class will also incorporate fun music and props such as scarves, teddy bears and hula hoops!

Act One:
Take an imagination journey filled with fun and fantasy! Designed for children of varied abilities, this spectacular drama course uses theatre games, improv, and a variety of costuming and props to take children on adventures they won't soon forget! From fairy tale castles to safari scenes, budding young artists explore the world of creative drama. At the conclusion of this program, children collaborate on a wildly fun show where they put their talents on display!

Ballet:
Beginning Ballet gives students an introduction to classical ballet technique. Barre and Centre work will be covered in an age-appropriate manner, focusing on balance and coordination. Concepts such as turnout, pointed toes and body placement will be taught in a safe, anatomically correct manner. Children should wear ballet attire and ballet shoes. Parents may stay for the first 10 minutes of the first class, and are invited to watch the last class of the session.

Center Stage:
Comedy and laughter are contagious in this truly entertaining program that combines drama, comedy and improv. Theatre games, costuming and props set the stage for a fun-filled time. Children tap into their creativity as they act spontaneously through improvisation and laugh along with others in comical skits. Materials varies from short plays to skits and monologues. At the the conclusion of this program, participants put their talents to work in the production of their very own show!

Circus Stars:
Be a circus star! Have fun with clowning and comical skits, poi spinning or ribbon dancing, face painting and circus acts using hula hoops, spinning plates, co-op walks, scarf juggling and more! On the last day of the session, children present their skills to parents, family and friends in a performance complete with costumes, props, make-up, and music!

Create A Play:
Get ready to write, direct, and act in an original production! Students will begin with the basics of acting in this theatre course. Next, is playwriting where everyone has a part! Originality and self-expression are encouraged in creating characters and scenes of their own. Assistant directors, stage managers, and designers are also needed. Finally, participants take the stage and perform the play, one-acts, or skits they have created!

Curtain Call:
Know someone who has a flair for the dramatic or is a natural born comedian? Teens who love to perform will have a great time learning techniques in stage presence, vocal projection, character development, and script analysis throughout this course. Theatre and improv games, costuming and props add to the fun. Students polish up on their performance skills and personal style, concluding this course with a production of a live entertainment show!

Dance, Act, Perform!:
A unique blend of the various art disciplines leads to a one-of-a-kind variety show! From humorous skits to cultural folk tales, hip-hop to jazz, through comedy and drama, students will act, dance, and be guided through the production and performance of their very own entertainment show! With costumes, props, music, arts and crafts, students experience the wonderful world of the arts! This program is about creative expression: exploring, creating, and having fun! Participants build self-esteem, are inspired to develop individual talents, and realize the artist that lies within each of them. This course culminates with a performing arts variety show!

Get Up and Dance:
Get up and dance to hip hop beats and other pop hit music! This class features exciting dance moves along with basic techniques that make for a great workout! Through a wonderful blend of popular dance styles and music, students are exposed to a wide range of genres, including easy-to-learn jazz and hip hop moves. Program culminates with a fun costumed presentation!

Hip-Hop:
High-energy dance classes provide hours of fun while promoting teamwork and improving coordination, stamina and overall good fitness. Dance steps are introduced slowly in easy to understand language. As students sharpen their moves and refine footwork, choreography is introduced. Instruction is broken down to simplify the learning process, thereby helping to instill confidence in all dancers. Program culminates with an exciting costumed presentation!

Move and Groove:
Participants dance to a variety of theme music in this fabulous course that features different dance styles, from hip-hop to country to jazz. Children learn to express themselves through creative movement, develop good fitness habits, and build self-esteem. This is a great course for dancers of all levels! Program culminates with a delightful costumed presentation!

Musical Revue:
Dance, act, and sing to musical numbers from all your favorite musicals. This program focuses on the different elements of group productions and essential performing skills that include character building, stage presence, and movement. The finale will star the entire cast in a variety show!

Pop Star!:
In this high-energy dance class, you'll be the star of the show! Dance to the music of your favorite teen pop artists. CLAP Arts will provide costuming and accessories such as feather boas, hats, glitter and jewels. We'll even have a fashion photo shoot! This course is aimed at all budding entertainers and will culminate with an exciting performance for friends and family.
